HLA-G Polymorphisms in Idiopathic Recurrent Spontaneous Abortions
Thesis work of Dr Khusru Nomani MD, Dept. of Anatomy, AIIMS New Delhi
Several systemic illnesses can lead to recurrent abortions. Recurrent spontaneous abortions may have a genetic association. Human Leukocyte Antigen (HLA)-G which belongs to the HLA Class I is expressed on fetal derived placental cells. Polymorphisms in this region can lead to the breakdown of maternal tolerance to the fetus which is semi-allogenic in the mother’s womb.
This study compared the occurrence of HLA-G polymorphisms among couples who had at least 2 spontaneous abortions with couples who had normal pregnancies.
