Management and outcomes of advanced hemangioendothelioma
A retrospective study from a medical oncology clinic at an Indian tertiary care center
Hemangioendotheliomas are rare malignant tumors with vascular origin. This retrospective study by Dr Ghazal Tansir et al. on 13 patients displays a male preponderance, with epithelioid subtype being the commonest. The disease also showed aggressive manifestations such as acute liver failure and ruptured spleen. The viscera and bone were the commonest primary locations in 46.2% and 30.8% patients, respectively. Treatment with tyrosine kinase inhibitors showed a promising 30% response rate while chemotherapy showed stabilization of disease in 7.7% patients.
