Questionnaire to Assess the Knowledge, Attitude, and Practices Regarding Adult Immunization
A scientifically validated tool
India is a land of almost one and a half billion people with at least 150 million people being above the age of 60 years. With waning immunity and presence of multiple chronic illnesses among this population, the need for adult immunization cannot be over-emphasized. However, a recent survey by the Association of Physicians of India showed that a meagre 16% of adults above 50 years of age had taken their adult-vaccines.
Travel is an important route of acquiring infectious diseases too. Infections like Yellow fever, Cholera, Rabies, Hepatitis A, Typhoid and Polio are preventable by vaccination but seldom do Indian travellers utilize the opportunity. The solution to this problem begins by sensitising the healthcare providers and providing necessary support and training to them. As a first step, we aimed to develop a scientifically validated questionnaire which can be utilized as a tool to assess the knowledge, attitude and practices regarding adult vaccination. The complete methodology used to develop the questionnaire can be read in the published article by clicking here.
